The Breaks began in cafe/bar Espresso 124, Christchurch in 1995 with Geoff Wright (DJ Presha).
After bringing The Breaks to Aucklands Club Calibre in 1996, the underground weekly event grew in popularity. Soon after, Geoff became co-owner of Subtronix, and since then The Breaks has moved from Herzog to the Ministry before The Last Breaks event, November 4th 1999, three years after the Calibre sessions. Throughout almost all of its poppular existence, The Breaks also featured top Drum and Bass Dj's 48 Sonic, Aaron, Riddle and now editor of Re:Mix, DJ8 (Andy Pickering)
