Wired Event History



Wired was formed in 1995 by Grant Fell, Marcus Ringrose, and Gideon Keith. Grant was working for Planet Magazine at the time. Marcus, who is oridginally from the UK first set foot in NZ in '92, and along with Gideon is currently working in graphic design.

A small party held March 1996, featuring a whole host of local DJ's.

2 Wired - 30 March 1996



2 Wired

A huge success, Wired 2 saw the crowd into the thousands, packing the Club, Upper Queen Street, Auckland on Saturday 30th March. Headlining were Alex Patterson (The Orb) and David Harrow (On-U Sound System), both on their first visit to our shores. David Harrow would later collaborate with Salmonella Dub through this connection.

Wired 2 featured local support from Fletch, DJ8 (Andy Pickering), Gideon, Albion (box), Stinky Jim, Technova, 48 Sonic, and Christchurch Drum n Bass maestro DJ Potts.

First Bass - 29 June 1996.



First Bass is hailed as New Zealand's first Jungle Party. Held at the Powerstation Saturday June 29, the cast included live players Lava Lava (Mike Neilsen and Benny Staples), DJ's Riddle, 48 Sonic, Aaron, and the first ever Auckland performance of Unitone Hi-Fi, and headliner Spring Heel Jack direct from the U.K. Chelsea, Rude girl, and T.I.M were on board in the Rumpus room.

This event was also broadcast on the Internet.

"Quadraphonic PA, Multi-Visuals, Enhanced Environment, blah, blah, blah."

First Bass

Wired 3. - 11 October 1996



Wired 3

Subtitled "The final Excusion", Wired 3, again held at the Club, featured direct from Detroit USA, one of the Godfathers of Techno, Kevin Saunderson.

Local support from D-Rave, Chelsea, Gideon, Greg Churchill, Stinky Jim, Aaron, 48 Sonic, and Ch-Ch's Sue Jorgensen.

Jungle Bells - 14 Dec 1996



Xmas Time.
Jungle Bells featured Jungle/Jazz fusion Saxophonist's James Hardway from the UK, and our own acidman Nathan Haines playing live. The event jam-packed Auckland's Calibre Club to its Maximum, possibly to date.

In support on the decks were 48 Sonic, Presha, and Sue Jorgensen.

Southern Exposure - 2 May 1997 w/Spooky Productions.



Sasha

As a joint Wired/Spooky production, Southern Exposure featured UK house master, Sasha. This event quite possibly marked the turning point of the Auckland Scene to what we have today, in terms of popularity.

Support came with the help of Sarah McLeod from Miami, USA, NZ's Gideon, Luke da Spook, Clarkee, Sye, Mikhail, Yogi, and Guy.

All the stops were pulled for lighting, sound, and environmental enhancement.

Trade w/Spooky Productions - 28 & 29 November 1997.



Trade was the last event before Wired finally pulled the plug.

A joint venture with Spooky Productions, Trade featured UK Trade residents Thomas & Malcolm Duffy, Brett Nicholson.

NZ support from Stephen Green, Tim Phinn, Bevan Keys, and Luke "Luke da Spook" Thompson.
